The 2022 FLL season, themed ‘Super Powered,’ was nothing short of a roller-coaster ride for our intrepid team, filled with high-energy moments, bursts of innovation, and spectacular achievements.
Regional Dominance
At the Regional qualifiers, our team clinched the Best Robot Design award, a testament to their meticulous design approach. What truly set them apart was their ability to articulate their design considerations with clarity and confidence. When the judges glimpsed the intricate coding tailored to account for instrument errors, they were left spellbound. Add to that the cherry on top: bagging the top score in the first robot game run. With such a promising start, the semifinals beckoned.
Gearing Up for the Semifinals
The semifinal stage saw our team returning to the drawing board, reshaping their robot design to a more compact version, aiming for those extra mission points. They also reached out, tapping into expert advice and community feedback to refine their innovation project on gutter powered hydro electric generation. Even without bagging an award, their stellar performance in the event paved the way to the State Championship.
State Championship: Where Dedication Shines
Ahead of the State Championship, our team left no stone unturned. The robot design and its attachments underwent another round of optimizations. Hours blurred as they practiced their robot runs and honed their innovation project pitch. Their code evolved, targeting more missions during the robot runs. Out of a staggering 320 teams that graced the event in Washington, our team emerged as a force to be reckoned with. Their determination culminated in a remarkable second-place finish in the Robot Run and the coveted State Championship Finalist award.
The Global Stage Awaits
The pinnacle of their achievements? An invitation to the World’s Championship event lottery in Australia. While fate played its part, preventing an overseas journey, this invitation itself spoke volumes of their prowess and potential.
In reflection, the 2022 FLL season was not just about awards and accolades for our first time rookie team. It was a journey of growth, innovation, and resilience. Australia might have been missed, but the world has certainly taken notice.
